Delegate & Effectively Manage Resources – Business Management Strategies from Jethro & Moses Story Exodus 18.

Jethro – Moses father in law was just advising him in this passage after observing Moses business process for just a day. I believe it was God speaking through him to Moses with clear instruction on how to better manage an organisation.

Two(2) important points to note in that conversation by every business owners and entrepreneurs.

  1. Delegation – you have got to learn how to delegate. You alone can’t run a company and be successful beyond your ability. You have to get people to involve in the business. Remember you don’t have more than 24hours in a day just like any other person. Immediately you are too involve operationally without delegation- you will begin to lose focus on the main vision. Trust is the main reason why people don’t want to delegate. Would they do it the way have been doing it? Just like Moses did assign smaller tasks, let them make their mistakes and improve on them. It’s important to do this.
  2. Resource Management to scale- “And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.” Exodus‬ ‭18:25‬. He was able to identify talents within the organization and assign responsibilities based on their leadership capacity. Make them grow, promote them, set bigger Vision and let them run with it. Then this will give you time to have a helicopter view on the organization. Your organization is not successful until the operation can run without you.

These items discussed above if it is well handled are the only sure way to scale an organization. I know you have been wondering how people build an organization with hundreds and thousands of employees. The lessons from Jethro & Moses conversation nailed it.

As entrepreneurs, while bootstrapping we want to do everything by ourselves. This is okay, but at some point we must begin to implement some of today’s strategies to scale whatever organizations that we are building.
